The city wide garage sale has become a popular event in small town America as it will often bring a few out-of-towners into your village for a day. Even a few visitors will result in increased revenue for the town and for your sale.

Garage sales are wonderful things. You have already been to many of them throughout childhood and into adulthood. They have been called many things: garage sale, yard sale and flea market. All in all, they are all the same, as these sales consist of things that are no longer wanted by the owners so they are offered for sale to the public, usually for a great price. There are two ways you can take advantage of the city wide garage sale.

Have a Sale of Your Own

Having a yard sale or a garage sale when everyone else is having his or her own is a great idea. When there are many places having garage sales all at once, there will be a lot more traffic than what one single sale would bring in. The more traffic there is the better chance you will be able to get rid of that old stuff and make some cash.

Even though you might have a lot of little things to place in your sale, make sure that you are setting out some big-ticket items to grab attention. While those bigger items may or may not sell, it will at least bring interest to your sale.

Do make sure that you are being reasonable with your pricing. People come to garage sales in hopes of finding perfect treasures for a really cheap price. After all, if you do not sell the stuff, you have not made any money and are either throwing the stuff away or donating it. The last thing you want to do is haul all of that back into your house since it is all stuff you do not want. So, be reasonable and price things to sell.

Go Shopping at the Neighbors

When there is a city wide garage sale in your town, even if the sale consists of just a few streets, you want to make sure that you are doing a little shopping of your own. While you may have had your sale to clear your home of some unwanted items, you just never know what treasures may be found at someone else's sale.

You might just find something that reminds you of your childhood or that you have been in search of for years. You might even find an antique that you could resell for a profit. Of course, it would be in bad taste to try to sell it right away at your sale. Moreover, if it truly is something of value, you might want to sell it in a different manner anyway.

As you can see, the city wide garage sale can benefit you as a seller and as a buyer. There is so much to do so make sure that you start planning and preparing as soon as possible.
