Door moves a little and stops every time you push the button

Have you ever ran in to this problem? When you push the button the door goes down about 1 inch then stops. if you push it again it goes up 1 inch then stops. I unplugged the motion sensor and it does the same thing. Which leads me to believe that somewhere along those lines it is not connected. Unless you have another idea.
