Garage Door only Closes when I hold Down the Button on the Wall Control

by Carmine

opener works if I hold the button down continually

but remote closer will not close

It will open but will not close

Problem is with the infrared safety sensors, located on each side of your Garage Door, a few inches above the floor.

In most cases, they are simply out of alignment. The beam from the sending unit must strike the lens of the receiver. It takes a slight rotational bend of the sending units bracket, in the right direction, to get them back in alignment.

Occasionally, the problem can be the wiring or bad sensors.

Check the wiring between the sensors and the opener to make sure the wires are not pinched or broken.

If the sensors are bad, the indicator light will be out on one or both of the sensors.

Hope this helps,
Donald

Additional Troubleshooting Insights Stemming from The Sensors and not Remote Contorl or Wall Button Issues NEW
by: Anonymous

Excellent comments and they resolved my problem which were the sensors. I adjusted both their angles, but actually think the problem was somehow that a kink in the wiring occurred which I straightened.

My main comment to add is for the sensors to be performing correctly, there must be a steady, not pulsating, red beam coming from the one sensor to the other. If it pulsates, then an adjustment must be made, probably in the alignment to the other sensor or perhaps in moving the wiring of each which appears to be the case in my situation. Thanks again to all for your input as it was extremely helpful in the troubleshoot!!
