Garage Door Opener Motor Does Not Run

by Bob W.
(San Diego)

My mother has a Sears 1/4hp chain drive door opener, model 139654200. It suddenly stopped working today.

There seems to be power to the unit, we can hear an electrical "click", but the motor does not run.

We tried activating it from the remote and the wall switch.

I suspect this opener to be about 30 years old. It will operate manually.

Any suggestions for troubleshooting or repair, or is time to retire the old unit?

If you cannot hear the hum of the motor running I believe it is time for a replacement.

Repairs are likely to cost almost as much if not more than a replacement.

Thanks for the advice

I figured as much. If the motor is shot, it's probably more cost effective to replace the entire unit.
Thanks for the advice.
