Garage Door Opener Parts

Since Garage Door Opener Parts sometimes break or wear out, you may be interested in finding those at your dealer, home center, hardware store or online.

Chamberlin, Sears Craftsman, Overhead Door and Genie garage door opener parts are usually available locally as well as online. Other brands such as Guardian, Raynor, Allister, Moore-O-Matic, Stanley Whistler, and Door Sentry may be easiest to locate from online resources.

Stanley has not been manufactured since 1997 but some parts are still available online.

The first step is to determine what the problem is and what part is needed to make the necessary repairs. troubleshooting and repair information can be found in each companies owners manuals.

Many operators use plastic gears so that if your door is not adjusted and balanced correctly, the gears will strip before damaging the motor. You may hear the motor running, perhaps even a grinding noise, but your door does not move. Gears are fairly easy to replace as are chains and belts.

Circuit boards are often misdiagnosed as bad when other parts have not been properly tested, so be sure it is actually the circuit board causing the problem before ordering as some suppliers will not accept opened returns of these electronic components.

Your infrared safety sensors cannot be bypassed - your opener will not work without them.

Springs - in most cases adjustment and replacement of springs should be left to the professional as they are very dangerous. Extension springs should be equipped with a safety cable in case of breakage. The safety cable will contain the spring if breakage should occur.

Torsion springs will not fly about as they are naturally contained by the torsion bar.

Remotes should be equipped with fresh batteries before condemning. Programming instructions can be found in your owners manual.

If you are the do-it-yourself type you may be able to troubleshoot and repair your operator with the correct garage door opener parts.
