Garage Door Won't Go Down

by Skip Gilmore
(Rancho Bernardo, CA)

The garage door will go up but it will not go down except if I release the lever and move it down manually.
What is most likely the problem?

Will the door close if you use the wall control button, by pressing and holding the button down until the door is fully closed?

If so, the most likely problem is the safety sensors are out of alignment.

Twist the sending unit until the bracket bends slightly and the infrared beam strikes the safety eye lens of the receiver.

Less frequently, there can be a pinched or broken wire between the safety sensors and motor assembly, or the sensors can go bad.

Hope this helps,
Donald
