Your Garage Sale
The Best Time?

Many people will put a lot of thought and planning into what they will put in their garage sale and how they will price everything. The problem is there are not enough people putting a lot of thought into when is the best time to hold your rummage sale.

Believe it or not, timing is everything. You have to make sure that you are picking the best date possible for your yard sale in order to ensure that it makes you the most money possible. If you have your rummage sale right after a major holiday, you might not find that there are a lot of people able or willing to spend their money.

If there is an upcoming carnival or festival in your town, this would be a good time to hold your yard sale. Make sure that you are placing signs advertising your sale near where people will surely pass to make their way to the carnival or festival. Even though you might think that people will already be spending a lot of money, you are getting them while they still have cash in hand, versus right after a major holiday when they are broke.

Also, try not to worry about having your sale open for twelve hours a day. Opening before 10 am is not always the wisest move either. Actually, it won't hurt but it certainly will not be worth your time. The best time frames for sales are between ten in the morning and four in the afternoon. After four o'clock, people are going home to their families or hitting the town for some fun. You can keep your yard sale open but again, it most likely will not be worth your time.

You might also want to refrain from opening on Sunday. Saturdays always seem to be the best days for the garage sale crowd. Some might think that Sunday is a good day - catch all the church goers on their way home from service. The thing is though, after church, a lot of people are in their nice dress clothes, going out to lunch with family and friends or simply going home to change. Keep your rummage sale to a short one day event and you will see that the amount of money that you make really does not change all that much.

As you can see, there does need to be a little thought put into when is the best time to hold your rummage sale. Having your garage sale on the right day and during the right hours is the key to success. If you can manage to come up with the perfect schedule, you will be all set and making lots of money before you know it.
