Why is a garage sale checklist so important to a successful sale?

Have you ever had a garage sale or a yard sale that simply did not go as well as you had hoped. It was not because the weather turned bad, it just did not make you all that much money, and you are left baffled as to why that is. In order to make sure that you do not have that kind of yard sale again it is important to make sure that you are going over your garage sale checklist. The more you plan in advance, the better your sale will be.

Advertise Big

While no one expects you to rent billboard space, you will want to make sure that as many people as possible are aware of your garage sale. You can pay for a small ad in the newspaper or even advertise on Craigslist free. In addition, you do not want to forget about the people who will be simply driving around your neighborhood that day. Post some large colorful signs advertising your garage sale.

Be the Customer

Before people start rolling in, once you have everything for your garage sale set up, make sure that you are walking around your stuff as if you were the customer. Are things set up in a manner so that they are easily seen? Are all of your prices clearly marked and a reasonable amount?

Be Prepared

You want to make sure that you are prepared for the people who want extra large bags, those who will need all kinds of change and the people who will want to test out the electronic items that you are trying to sell. Run an extension cord out so that customers can check to make sure that the electrical items you are selling are in working order. Without being able to test such things, shoppers will pass them up because they do not want to risk the money.

Make sure that you have gone to the bank and stocked up on some small bills and a couple of rolls of quarters, nickels and dimes.

Display Hard to Sell Items Well

Things like books can be hard to sell, especially if they are left in a box for people to have to dig through. If you bring out a bookshelf, you can neatly arrange the books, which will make it much easier for people to look through them. If have a something that is folded or compacted instead of being open, such as a lawn chair or a wonderful blanket, you will want to make sure that you are displaying these to the best of their advantage.

There is not a lot of brainwork that is required to make sure that you are running a garage sale that will bring in some much needed cash, but you do have to think just a little bit. Even with just a little extra effort, you could very well find yourself in a position to finally be able to afford that expensive designer purse that you have always wanted, all thanks to your garage sale checklist.
