Many people get very upset when they want to purchase an item and they can't find the price anywhere. This happens in many local department stores. So instead of asking someone the price, the customer walks away and the store loses a sale.

In defense of the large department stores, it is understandable that with so many of a particular item sold, it is very hard and very time consuming to put labels on every single item. This costs the company money and that is why price labels are just put on the bottom of the shelf under each item.

In many instances the added color can be used to emphasize a point, such as a red hot sale, or a blue light special.

These labels have also been used by in-home nurses, who needed a way to label food for patients to keep track of which foods should be eaten by a certain date. As the food time limit gets closer and closer to expiring, the nurse would simply put a different color of tag on the food until it had to be disposed of.

Labels can be purchased at many of your local department stores, and may even come with pre-printed prices. They can be ordered and printed online, however, you can print them out yourself, using your own home computer and printer. If you have a print shop program installed on your computer, and the label maker printing paper, you can print certain designs on your labels; your imagination makes your choice of designs limitless.

Some of the websites where you can find garage sale labels may also offer pre-printed prices, and the websites will offer a greatly reduced price if you order by the pack. Purchasing by the pack is much less expensive than printing your own labels. By the time you figure out the price of the ink for your printer, the price of the label maker paper, and the price of the printing program plus the time it takes to get the printer setup just right, you are really saving a lot of money.
