Genie 2020L Sensor Malfunction

Have a Genie 2020L opener and the sensors seem to be malfunctioning. Sometimes the lights on BOTH sides are off; or red is blinking 3 pulses (indicating interference) but the green light is also dimly pulsing at the same rate.

Tried unplugging power to "reset" sometime this would work, but not always.... IF it did reset, the lights would gradually dim in brightness and eventually go off?

Is this a sympton of malfunctioning sensors or maybe the controller board? Beam path is clear, wires secure, no shorts....
