genie garage door will not close

by Del
(Borger,TX)

my garage door will open with remote and with wall switch, but will not close with remote and only closes with wall when I hold it down.

It is not the safety switches, so what could it be? Thanks

Your infrared safety sensors are out of alignment.

The infrared beam from the sending unit must strike the lens of the receiving unit.

If you get down to eye level with the receiver you can see that the indicator lamp is blinking rapidly.

Twist the sending unit to bend the bracket slightly in the correct direction, until the indicator light stops blinking and remains on continuously.

Everything should work as usual once the safety sensors are aligned properly.

Garage Door won't close because of Sensor Alignment???
by: Anonymous

It is unlikely the misalignment of the sensors occurred for no reason or without some external force. If the light is on and not blinking alignment should still be set properly.

However, ask the family, kids, and frequently visiting neighbors kids if they tripped or bumped into the sensors. Damage could have occurred to the sensor even though alignment is still set correct.

I also found the wire leading to one of the two sensors was previously broken and had been twisted back together causing an intermittent closing problem.

I found that one of the connecting wires was broken off, and reconnected it. That set the green light working again.
I thought the problem was with the sending unit, but turned out to be a very easy fix.
