Local Garage Sales
Fun and Interesting Things
to do on a Weekend

Do local garage sales come to mind when thinking about all of the fun things you can do with your summer? These sales not only offer many people something interesting to do on a Saturday afternoon, but they have become a tradition shared with their family.

Garage sales are extremely beneficial to those who not only shop them, but those who run them as well. If you are interested in running your own sale, a good thing to do would be to talk with some of your neighbors to see if they too would be interested in doing a sale of their own. The more people in your local area that are running sales, the more traffic will flow in. Do not think of your neighbor's sales as competition, but rather an extension of your sale.

Take all of the stuff in your house that you are no longer using. A good rule of thumb for putting together local garage sales is: if you do not use it - sell it. There is no reason to keep a house full and garage full of stuff that you never use. Once you start sorting through everything, you might even realize that you did not know that you had so many things you do not use.

Also make sure that your prices are fair so that people will be more willing to shop at your yard sale. Think like a shopper. No one is going to pay twenty dollars for a pretty plate with a picture of a cat on it, especially when they can get the same thing at the mall, brand new, for a fraction of the price.

Make sure that you have plenty of bags and change on hand for your customers.

With all of the hard work that you will be putting into your sale, you will find yourself tempted to shop at the other garage sales in your area. Since you just never know what hidden gem you will find, it is okay to go. Just make sure that you are not spending all of the profits from your sale and most importantly, make sure that you are not just buying more junk that will eventually end up in your next garage sale.

When shopping in local garage sales, make sure that you are looking for the things that you can really make use of. Also look for things of high value that may be marked incredibly low as you could turn it for a profit, especially if it is an antique. Many eBayers make a tidy profit using this technique. Of course, it would be poor manners to take what you bought at your neighbor's sale and then sell it at your own yard sale.
