Organizing a Garage Sale
Can Be Painless

So many people think about having a garage sale but pass on the idea because of all of the "work" involved in organizing a garage sale. The thing is though, if you have not had a good yard sale in the past couple of years, it is overdue.

If you find that your house is full of clutter that you have not worn, cooked with, read or played with in the past year, it is time for a garage sale. You could just throw everything away but that would be a waste and a shame since there are people out there who would like to make good use of what you call junk.

Box It

In order to make sure that your garage sale is a success, you will want to become organized. It is key that you and your family go through each and every room of the house with boxes. Throw everything that does not get used into the box.

A few days before the sale, you want to make sure that you are pricing everything. Garage sales are no fun for you or your customers if they have to keep asking you the price on everything.

Schedule It

When organizing a garage sale it is important to make sure that you are you setting one day that you will be able to spend a good four to five hours working your garage sale.

There is no reason to work into the night and there is certainly no reason for the additional day that so many people put aside for their event. Most of your sales will take place the first day so do not even bother wasting your time on the second day for a whopping fifty cents some old silverware might go for.

Advertise It

You also want to make sure that you are properly advertising your yard sale. An advertisement in the local paper or online in the free classifieds is a great way to go. Also, do not forget to place signs around your town and signs on the roads leading to your home. This is a great way to advertise and to grab the attention of potential customers.

Donate It

When your garage sale comes to an end, make sure that you are not allowing anything back into the house. After all, it was placed out into the yard sale for a reason. In addition, if it did not sell this year, it probably will not sell next year so scratch the idea of keeping it for another rummage sale.

Now, you want to make sure that you are not just throwing your stuff away either. Donate the leftovers from your yard sale to a local charity. You can either drop the stuff off yourself of you can call a local charity truck that can come and pick up everything for you.

Next year you will find organizing a garage sale to be a lot easier.
